Latitude N 34 42.146 x Longitude W 82 28.254 CHURCH/CEMETERY HISTORY: ------------------------ Keith Brown, a Spearman descendant, believes that Edmund Spearman and his wife, Dinah Oldham, are buried in this cemetery along with their son and daughter-in- law, David Samuel "Samuel" Spearman and his wife, Nancy Clardy. They came from Caroline County, VA. David Samuel "Samuel" Spearman was born in 1774 in Caroline County VA and died in 1851 near Piedmont, SC. His wife, Nancy Clardy, was born in 1774 in Amelia County, VA and died in 1855 near Piedmont, Anderson County, SC. Some time back, rumors got out that there was an Indian burial ground at the cemetery and local people dug there. I'm told there wasn't an Indian burial ground there. The old Piggly Wiggly Store is being rebuilt after a fire as a Fred's. The land and store property was and still is owned by Jimmy Wilson who lives near the Jockey Lot on Highway 29. Lowry Wilson, Mar-2004, sclowry@hotmail.com ---------- My information on the Spearman Family Cemetery comes from Keith Brown (a Spearman relative) and the Old Pendletion District Genealogy Society 2005 database. I can not vouch for their accuracy. I have heard that the original Shiloh Methodist Church and cemetery were located down the road from the current church and cemetery. The original church and cemetery were destroyed. It took many years for the original settlers to establish church buildings with cemeteries. The original settlers had their own family cemeteries that started off using field rocks for tomb markers. Most of them are now destroyed. Lowry Wilson, 23-Jul-2006, sclowry@hotmail.com o----------o David Samuel Spearman & wife Nancy Clardy are buried at Shiloh Methodist Church, Piedmont SC in my opinion based upon the fact that DSS donated the land for the church according to church history & that they lived near there. They lived in VA until 1790's when they moved to Newberry Co SC & then to Anderson Co SC. The part of Caroline Co VA where they lived was cut out of Essex Co VA in 1728, this is proven by all the records for this family are in Essex Co court house including when they sold the land in 1790. DSS was the son of Edmund Spearman & Dinah DISHMAN proven by her father David Dishman's will which mentions Dinah Spearman w/o Edmund & that she & her siblings contested the will. Where Edmund & Dinah are buried is the mystery. My grandfather John Spearman is my direct line back to John Spearman in 1660. Derrell Oakley Teat, 22-Jul-2006, margaret.teat2@verizon.net o----------o I have the Spearman family book that's pretty accurate if you ever want any info from it. The Spearman's are VERY documented because Col . Frank did a excellent job. I've only found 2 mistakes & one maiden name that's not in the book. Dinah Spearman's maiden name of Dishman was a discovery about 3 + yrs ago by accident.
